. republican congressman tom cole of oklahoma joins us live in a few moments and later this hour we'll hear from congressman steve israel, democrat from new york. stick around for that. >>> the other big developing story we're following, secretary of state hillary clinton in a new york city hospital this morning being treated for a blood clot. her spokesperson says the clot was discovered during a routine followup exam yesterday in the wake of the concussion she suffered several weeks ago following a fall. now, nbc news chief science and health correspondent robert bazell is live from new york there in front of the presbyterian hospital. bob, what do we know about secretary clinton's condition and how she is being treated right now? >> richard, we know precious little. we had the one statement yesterday evening from secretary clinton's staff that said she suffered a concussion that was related -- excuse me -- suffered a blood clot related to this concussion. usually when somebody has a blood clot related to a concussion it is in the brain and would not be treated with anticlotting drugs. sh
and deal with the deficit in a balanced way. in fact, as we know, republicans like tom cole, a very conservative member from oklahoma, and others have said that that approach makes sense. and yet the speaker refuses to allow a vote on that proposal. and so allow democracy to work and so far unfortunately, speaker boehner has been held captive with the tea party wing of the republicans in the house, which voted down his own proposal just about a week ago, because he said, well, we should ask folks making over $1 million to pay more. his caucus said no. so what we're saying is, let the whole house, democrats and republicans, vote on the president's proposal. let democracy work its will. worst case scenario is that would be defeated. but you don't know until you hold a vote in the house of representatives. that's how democracy is supposed to work. it's not supposed to allow a small, extreme group within the republican caucus to dictate terms to the country. >> there is some indication from the hill that the call to bring vice president joe biden, two has negotiated deals in the past, o
.c. that will tell us this is how it all happens. congressman tom cole appeared with luke russert on "the daily rundown." i want to play what he had to say. >> he had the complete support of everybody for plan b, and so this is a tactical debate and discussion, it's not a debate over john boehner's leadership. i think he'll be the speaker, honestly not for two years, but for four. >> can we play the other one that talks about how the deals come together at the last moment? let's queue that one up. >> that's what happened in the budget deal, the debt ceiling deal. i think that's what's going to happen again. >> why are you cautiously optimistic? >> well to paraphrase rorchld reagan, there's so much manure around here, it's got to be a pony around here. >> when they find that pony, whose office will it be in? >> it's' darkest before the dawn. maybe there is a dawn before we can get this deal. i think a lot will be looked at with mcconnell's speech on the floor. if he follows senator reid and starts the blame game, it will be pretty bleak. if he starts talking about solutions and this is important
